A report by SureSave reveals there has been a 15 per cent jump in travellers using agents as a method of booking travel and purchasing travel insurance since 2012. More than 70 per cent of Australians view agents as a trusted source of travel and safety advice, according to the SureSave 2016 Travel Insurance Index. The findings also show that 36 per cent of Australians booked their last overseas leisure trip with a travel agent, either in-store or over the phone, making it the most popular method of booking travel in Australia. According to SureSave, who surveyed more than 1000 Australian-based travellers, travellers are seeking guidance from the experts and not the internet. In the last two years, the number of travellers who view agents as a trusted source of safety and travel advice has jumped dramatically to 73%, representing a 16% increase. Australians love to travel and statistics show they are continuing to take more overseas trips, but with an increasing number of safety and security threats internationally, a growing number of Australian consumers are relying on the expertise of agents to provide assistance when planning their next holiday. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Finder.com.au conducted a price comparison of how travel insurance prices vary between airlines, travel agencies and direct bookings, with the latter offering the most favourable prices.

Tourism Australia is revamping its award-winning Aussie Specialist Program (ASP), in a move aimed at giving travel sellers globally the knowledge and skills to better promote and sell Australia. The relaunch follows an extensive review of the global online training program and includes a digital platform as well as training resources which will be shared by Tourism Australia and all eight of its state and territory tourism partners. Fundamental to the changes is a new digital platform, including a new website which features interactive modules, itinerary suggestions, factsheets, latest industry news updates, destination FAQs and an interactive map. As part of the ASP website relaunch, Tourism Australia's Premier Aussie Specialist Program will be extended to all key markets.
