Cairns takes out Australian Traveller’s friendliest town award | The Insight Files |

Cairns is being urged to capitalise on its recent accolade as Australia’s friendliest town. The Far North tourist favourite has been voted the most friendly in the country by travel magazine Australian Traveller, in a poll of thousands of readers. After one reader said, "the further north, the friendlier the locals," Cairns MP and assistant tourism minister Gavin King is adamant that all residents have a role to play in ensuring the town stays in favour with travellers. Cairns beat second-placed Byron Bay to win friendliest town, with Airlie Beach, Broome and Exmouth in Western Australia rounding out the list.
