Global tourism resilient to terrorism and further challenges | The Insight Files | Scoop.it

According to new research by the WTTC, global travel and tourism continues to register strong growth despite challenges from terrorism, political turmoil, global economic developments and the Brexit decision. The update of WTTC's Economic Impact Report 2016 shows that, despite the many challenges travel and tourism have faced in the first six months of 2016, the sector is still expected to grow by 3.1%, outpacing global economic growth forecast at 2.3%. While the global picture remains positive, the outlook for some countries has deteriorated since WTTC's last forecast in March 2016. Find out more.

As a record 1.1 billion international travellers crossed borders in 2013, the global tourism landscape is shifting to new frontiers of Asia, Africa and Latin America while the tourism strongholds of Europe and the U.S. continue their ascent in visitor arrivals. Exports from international tourism rose to $1.5 trillion in 2014 and show no sign of falling back. The worldwide travel and tourism gross domestic produdct is growing faster than the average global GDP and both domestic and international visitor spending are projected to soar during the next decade. Through a rigorous analysis of more than a billion travel intent data points, Sojern, the world's leading performance marketing platform for travel brands, has released its quarterly report of global travel insights. Sojern analysed travel behaviour worldwide in five regions: North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific, in order to understand travel intent within the first quarter of 2016 and beyond. The first half of the report offers an overview of the global travel trends for the major regions, as well as specific travel events during the quarter. The second half of the report looks forward to travel beyond the quarter. Using data based on search and booking behaviour provided by major airlines, online travel agencies, meta-search and other travel service providers, Sojern looks at travel intent into the summer of 2016.
