Holiday rental website Stayz has crunched the numbers and found that eight of 10 top getaway destinations for Australians these holidays are located by the sea. Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay, Sydney, Broadbeach, Cowes, Jervis Bay, Margaret River and Torquay have been revealed as the most popular places across the country, and proving its rank as hot beach property, more than half of the hotspots were located on the east coast of Australia. With less time to spend on extended trips, the research revealed that Australians are taking shorter holidays more often, with the average summer stay just 5.5 nights. Find out more.

New data released from Skyscanner, has revealed that Australians are amongst the world’s least spontaneous travellers in the world. Australians plan for holidays on average 11 weeks in advance of the departure date - nearly 2.5 weeks longer than the global average. Australia's geographical location means that Australians are well accustomed to embarking on long-haul trips with flights as long as 24 hours to one of their most-visited destinations, the UK. The only two countries that book earlier than Australia are New Zealand and Malaysia. On the flipside, the most spontaneous country worldwide when it comes to planning holidays is China.
