Kiwis don't just love living in Australia, tennis for them is a love game, too. The 2015 Australian Open attracted 13,200 international visitors, with 22% of them coming from New Zealand, 12% from England and 11% from the United States. A Deloitte Report found 120,000 visitors from outside Victoria went to the Australian Open, helping contribute $245 million to the state's economy. The $245 million figure was up from $239 million in 2012. The 2015 tournament created 1400 Victorian jobs and attracted 703,000 spectators.

Major sporting events continue to entice thousands of international guests to visit Melbourne. More than 687,500 visitors landed at Melbourne Airport in April, something CEO Woodruff has linked to the ICC Cricket World Cup. "Direct flights and major sporting events including the ICC Cricket World Cup,  continued to boost international growth from all regions, particularly Japan, China, India and Sri Lanka." Despite a subdued domestic market, he said domestic visitors to the airport also grew in April.
