Vivid Sydney 2016 has smashed visitor records with over 2.3 million people attending the world's biggest festival of light, music and ideas - an increase of 35.4 per cent on last year's attendance of 1.7 million. New precincts at the Royal Botanic Gardens and Taronga Zoo were visitor favourites as well as the spectacular Songlines projection onto the Sydney Opera House Sails that celebrated Indigenous Australian culture. A standout of this year's program was also the number of visitors travelling to NSW on specific Vivid Sydney travel packages, with a remarkable 88,300 packages sold, up an incredible 104 per cent on 2015 figures. Australian Tourism Exchange wins awards | The Insight Files | Scoop.it

Tourism Australia won three awards at the 2014 Meeting and Events Australia Industry Awards on 25 March for last year's Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE14). The wins included: 'Exhibition of the Year Award,' 'Corporate Social Responsibility Award (more than 30 employees)' and 'Education Award (more than 30 employees).' Tourism Australia was also a finalist in the 'Association of the Government Meeting of the Year' category. The MEA Awards recognise excellence and best business practice in the meetings and events industry. Find out more.

The city's iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, skyscrapers and various Vivid Sydney installations at Dawes Point were switched to Sydney's FC team's colours ahead of the hotly anticipated sporting event. Chelsea's FC blockbuster Sydney clash was expected to pull more than 80,000 spectators, and NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport said it was a great show of hospitality for Chelsea FC: "Chelsea is appearing exclusively in Sydney, with the event secured by the NSW Government through Destination NSW. With almost 20% of tickets sold to interstate and overseas fans, it promises to provide a boost to the local visitor economy."
