Australia’s red hot in the eyes of international travellers | The Insight Files |

Indian cricket fans have delivered another victory for Australia on the back of the Cricket World Cup. In the month of March, 674,500 overseas visitors flocked to Australia, up 13% on the same time last year. The growth took the total number of international travellers visiting the country to 7 million for the year to March, compared with 6.5 million in the previous 12 months. Visitors from India spearheaded the surge, increasing 46% to 23,400, thanks to their country's strong performance in the ICC CWC. The figure represented the largest number of Indian visitors ever to travel to Australia in a single month, beating February's record by 400. Tourism Australia's Managing Director said, "Figures like that just go to demonstrate the importance of events - particularly sporting events - in contributing to our visitor economy." Find out more.
