Qantas has launched a new virtual reality app, Qantas VR, giving customers an interactive way to discover and explore destinations before physically travelling there. Travellers who are curious about travelling to Australia can now experience a series of immersive 360 degree videos shot at places like Uluru, Hamilton Island and Sydney Harbour. A unique 'book now' button takes the user straight to the appropriate flight booking details page as the primary call to action. The application is designed to work for all smartphone users with a built-in VR mode for switching between 2D and a 3D mode for VR headsets.

Qantas and American Airlines to boost flights between Australia and the US | The Insight Files | Scoop.it

Qantas Airways and American Airlines will deepen their trans-Pacific alliance, with the Australian carrier adding a new flight between Sydney and San Francisco and the American carrier launching flights between Sydney and Los Angeles. The new flights, set to begin in December, will boost air capacity between Australia and the mainland United States by 9%. Qantas also flies to Los Angeles, Dallas, New York and Honolulu in the US. AirlineRatings.com, the world's only safety and product rating website, has announced its top ten safest airlines and top ten safest low cost airlines for 2015. Top of the list is Qantas which has a fatality free record in the jet era. Making up the remainder of the top ten include Air New Zealand, British Airways, Emirates and Etihad Airways. AirlineRating.com's rating system takes into account a range of actors related to audits from aviation's governing bodies such as the FAA and ICAO as well as government audits and the airline's fatality record. For Australian travellers, it's all about taking holidays with as little money as possible, according to new Qantas statistics. The airline says new figures show more travellers are replacing their dollar bills with Qantas Cash. So far, the carrier's pre-paid multi-payment currency payment facility built into its Qantas Frequent Flyer Card has been used in 177 countries across 120 currencies since launching in 2013. Head of Qantas Cash De Boer said that on average, someone in the world is using a Qantas Cash card every 10 seconds. Qantas Cash offers one Qantas Point for every dollar of eligible spend in foreign currency and one Qantas Point for every two dollars of eligible spend in Australian dollars. It also offers Frequent flyers a new way to earn points and reach rewards faster.

Qantas has proven its still Australia's first choice, bringing home a host of travellers' choice awards. Qantas brought it home in the Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards in 2014, winning both Domestic Airline and Domestic Business Airline of the Year. In 2015, it kept a solid lead in both categories, blitzing the awards, while Singapore Airlines held onto the crown as the top International Airline. In the quarter to February 2015, Qantas achieved an 87% satisfaction rating in the domestic airline category, just ahead of its regional brand Qantaslink, and comfortably ahead of third-place-getter Virgin Australia, which scored 79%. Qantas was especially popular with its younger passengers, with 91% of Generation Z and 89% of Generation Y feeling good about flying with the airline. As a domestic business carrier, Qantas also came out on top at 84%, with Virgin not far behind at 74%. Find out more.
