Does our holiday high peak at the start of a journey, or mid-holiday when we’re most relaxed? A new study has revealed the surprising point at which we’re happiest during the holiday process. According to a study published in the journal Applied Research in Quality of Life, we don't actually have to go on a holiday to be happy, we simply need to plan one. Surprisingly, what lasts a lot longer than a post-holiday high is the high travellers experience in the pre-holiday phase. For most, the enjoyment starts weeks, even months, before the actual holiday begins. The study also found that the length of a holiday does not impact post-trip happiness. It suggests people derive more joy from multiple short breaks spread throughout the year, than from having a single longer holiday once a year. Find out more.
